Warbirds Over Wanaka, RNZAF to pay $450 thousand in damages for causing Yak-3M crash

A judge in New Zealand has ruled that Warbirds Over Wanaka and the Royal New Zealand Airforce have been found liable for the accident involving a Yak-3M in 2018.

The warbird had hit a cherry picker parked on a grass runway. Justice Jill Mallon ruled that the air force, which was the show’s display director, had failed to ensure that the runway was clear for landing.

Owner of the Yak, Arthur Dovey, is to be paid $445 thousand for the damages.
