Doctor received U.S. Army’s rarest badge, the astronaut device

Col. Andrew R. “Drew” Morgan received his astronaut device from Lt. Gen. Daniel L. Karbler, commanding general of U.S. Army Space and Missile Defense Command, during a May 5 ceremony at the National Museum of the United States Army at Fort Belvoir, Virginia.


He joins Lt. Col. Anne McClain and Lt. Col. Frank Rubio as the only active duty Soldiers to have receive the astronaut badge. It is considered the rarest qualification in the Army.

Morgan had spent 272 days at the International Space Station from July 2019 till April 2020.
