Philippines could only afford to buy two F-16s using current budget allocated

Philippine Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana says the F-16 is too expensive for Manila and the country could only afford to buy two jets given the budget allocated to the multi-role fighter (MFR) program.

The same amount of money will allow Philppines to buy six Gripen fighters, Lorenzana told Philippine News Agency.

He added that the only way the F-16 could be selected for the MFR is to have a “financing scheme” provided by the U.S. government.
