Thailand wants to buy 8 F-35s, claims its cheaper than Gripen

The head of Royal Thai Air Force, ACM Napadej Dhupatemiya, revealed that the flying branch wishes to buy eight F-35 fighters and a panel will be set up to initiate the purchase.

Napadej claims that a Gripen fighter will cost $85 million and the F-35 can be acquired at $70 million after negotiations.

He added that only eight to 12 F-35s will be required and they will be aided by a fleet of unmanned “loyal wingman.”

According to Bangkok Post, the F-35s will replace the F-16s at Wing 1 in Korat.
