U.S. Army launches criminal probe into double HH-60 crash at Fort Stewart

Two HH-60 MedEvac helicopters were destroyed in a crash at Fort Stewart, Georgia on Mar. 30. After preliminary investigations, the U.S. Army has decided to launch a criminal probe into the event.

The crash killed Capt. James Bellew and he was the only aircrew that was onboard a helicopter during the incident. Army Times reports that both helicopters were intentionally destroyed and the crash was not an accident.

A spokesperson for 3rd Infantry Division confirmed to Army Times in a statement that “all other crewmembers were asleep at the time of the incident.”
