Launch of China’s first CATOBAR aircraft carrier delayed by COVID19

The launch of China’s first CATOBAR (“Catapult Assisted Take-Off But Arrested Recovery”) aircraft carrier has been delayed due to labor shortages at the shipyard in Shanghai, SCMP reports.

China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC) had to deploy its employees to the city to help fight the COVID19 pandemic in the city. The company said it help build three temporary hospitals on Changxing island last month.

Organizing a launch ceremony is also difficult as there are worries of the mass spreading of the virus at a large event.
