KC-130J pilot receives DFC for saving the aircraft after mid-air collision with F-35B

The U.S. Marine Corps KC-130J pilot who landed his plane safely in a farmer’s field in California after a mid-air collision with a F-35B has received the Distinguished Flying Cross.

“I’m thankful how everything turned out. I’m happy to be alive” said Wolff, “I still love flying, and I was happy to get up in the air as soon as I could afterwards.”

The incident took place on Sept. 29, 2020 when the plane, with 7 crew members on board, lost two engines during a mid-air refueling gone wrong.

After failing to divert to an airport, the aircraft landed on a field in Thermal.
