Medevac crew chief is among four new recipients of Medal of Honor

The White House has announced that President Biden will award the Medal of Honor to four U.S. Army Soldiers who fought in the Vietnam War: Staff Sergeant Edward N. Kaneshiro (posthumous), Specialist Five Dwight W. Birdwell, Specialist Five Dennis M. Fujii, and retired Major John J. Duffy. The award ceremony will be held on Jul. 5.

Specialist Five Dennis M. Fujii served as the crew chief of a medevac helicopter in Vietnam. Fujii exposed himself to hostile fire for 17 hours to direct airstrikes on the enemy after his helicopter was shot down and crashed.

Although wounded, he administered first aid to South Vietnamese causalities on the battlefield.
