Jet truck driver Chris Darnell killed during Battle Creek air show

Tragedy struck at the Battle Creek Field of Flight Air Show and Balloon Festival on Jul. 2 when Shockwave Jet Truck driver Chris Darnell was killed after his vehicle went out of control.


His custom-built race truck was equipped with three J34-38 jet engines. His team, based in Springfield, Missouri, has two other trucks as well. They make regular appearances at airshows across the country.

The USAF Thunderbirds team, which was performing at the same show, flew a missing man formation dedicated to Darnell.
