USN World War II ace from European and Pacific theaters has passed away

Dean “Diz” Laird, the only known U.S. Navy aces that scored aerial victories in the European and Pacific theaters during the Second World War has passed away on Aug. 10.


Besides World War II, Laird had served as a flight instructor during the Korean War and as a A-6 bomber pilot in the Vietnam War.

He also holds the record for most number of landings on a straight deck aircraft carrier.

Just recently, Laird flew for the final time when he joined Clarence “Bud” Anderson to fly the Boeing Stearman near Sacramento.
