60th anniversary of RAAF Red Sales crash

The Red Sales was a Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) aerobatic team that was disbanded before its public debut. The team lost all its aircraft and six pilots during its fifth training flight on Aug. 16, 1962, sixty years ago.

The team was practicing with four De-Havilland Vampires and the leader had commenced a low-level barrel roll too low and impacted the ground, three other jets followed the lead aircraft all the way and crashed.

The Red Sales was Australia’s first aerobatic team.
