Rapid Dragon aka 急龙车 will be tested off Norway this month

The Rapid Dragon airdropped palletized weapons system will be tested off Norway sometime between Nov. 9 – 11, the Barents Observer has found out.

Once the Palletized Munition Deployment System was stabilized under the parachutes, the production long range cruise missile STV and mass simulants were released sequentially, timed for safe separation between munitions. The photo shows a successful separation of a STV from the sabot following the weapon release, followed by the deployment of the STV’s control surfaces (wings and tail). (Courtesy photo)

Confirming to the news outlet, U.S. Army Cpt. Margaret Collins says the test “is not signaling to Russia or any adversary.”

“We will demonstrate the weapon when training interoperability with our NATO partners. This is the first time a live fire of the system will happen in training,” she added.

A large area west of Andøya and Tromsø in Northern Norway will be closed to air and marine traffic during that period.

The first live fire test of the Rpaid Dragon took place on Dec. 16, 2021 and involved a MC-130J.

According to Barents Observer, a C-130J will be used for this test and it will take off from Britain.
