Malaysia’s anti-graft agency to probe award of LCA contract to KAI

An unsuccessful bidder in Malaysia’s Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) competition has filed a complaint with the country’s anti-graft agency, the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).

According to The Edge, the contract for 18 light fighters was awarded to Korea Aerospace Industries (KAI) for its FA-50 offer.

However, unsuccessful bidders are questioning whether the award is appropriate as the parliament was dissolved on Oct. 10 for elections and the tender was awarded by a caretaker government.

“Once parliament is dissolved, no major purchases and mega projects can be undertaken by the interim government. Is the expedited process to procure the FA-50 and bypass other tender bids attempts to avoid further public scrutiny?,” a local consultant was quoted as saying.
