The acquisition of the additional missile systems will be carried out through the NATO Support and Procurement Agency (NSPA) and the Land Combat Missiles partnership program, Finland’s Ministry of Defense said in a press release on Dec. 9.

The Spike SR and LR2 systems are being procured to enhance the Finnish Army’s anti-tank capabilities. This acquisition will increase the number of Spike LR missiles in the PSTOHJ2000M system, and the new features of the Spike SR missiles that are being procured for the first time will improve the capabilities of the anti-tank troops.

The Spike ER2 system will be procured for the Finnish Navy for coastal defense.

The Spike missile is a family of anti-tank guided missiles produced by Rafael Advanced Defense Systems, an Israeli arms manufacturer. The Spike missile comes in several different variants, including the Spike SR, Spike LR2, and Spike ER2. It is designed to be launched from a variety of platforms, such as ground-based vehicles, helicopters, and ground troops. The missile uses an advanced guidance system to hit targets accurately and has been used in conflicts around the world.

The Spike missile is a fire-and-forget type of weapon, meaning that once it is launched, the operator does not have to maintain a guidance link with the missile. Instead, the missile uses an imaging infrared seeker to navigate to its target and hit it with precision.
