The helicopters, which are valued at over $24 million U.S. dollars, were donated by the United States as part of the countries’ enduring partnership. The event was attended by various officials from both the U.S. and Lebanon, including Brig. Gen. Ziad Haikal and Col. Michel Saifi of the LAF, as well as representatives from the U.S. Embassy and U.S. Central Command.

In December 2017, the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) announced a $120 million assistance package to provide the LAF with close air support capabilities. This package included six MD-530F+ light attack helicopters worth $94 million, six Scan Eagle unmanned aerial vehicles worth $11 million, three Huey II transport helicopters with door guns worth $31 million, and additional support equipment, communications, electronics, and night vision devices worth more than $16 million.
