The ‘Veer Guardian-2023’ joint air exercise between the Indian Air Force and the Japan Air Self Defense Force (JASDF) will take place from January 12 to 26, 2023. It will be held at the Hyakuri Air Base and the Iruma Air Base in Japan.
One of the highlights of the exercise will be the participation of Squadron Leader Avani Chaturvedi, a Su-30MKI pilot in the Indian Air Force. She will be the first woman fighter pilot to represent India in international wargames abroad. Chaturvedi and her fellow female pilots in the IAF have previously participated in wargames with foreign contingents coming to India, including the French Air Force, but this will be their first time representing the country abroad.
The Indian Air Force will be participating in the joint air exercise with the Japan Air Self Defense Force (JASDF) with four Su-30MKIs, two C-17, and one IL-78 aircraft. The JASDF will be participating with four F-2 and four F-15 aircraft.
The ‘Veer Guardian-2023’ exercise is an important step in the deepening of strategic ties and closer defense cooperation between India and Japan. It will provide an opportunity for the two countries to exchange best practices and for experts from both sides to share their expertise on various operational aspects. It will also strengthen the long-standing bond of friendship between the two countries and enhance the avenues of defense cooperation between their air forces. The participation of Squadron Leader Chaturvedi in the exercise is a significant milestone and a testament to the capabilities of the Indian Air Force.
