This mission is expected to take place between late 2023 and early 2024, and it will be preceded by a 4-month training cruise of the patrol ship Morosini. The exact timing will depend on logistics arrangements.

Adm. Giuseppe Berutti Bergotto, the deputy chief of staff of the Italian Navy, confirmed this during a conference held at the Catholic University of Milan on Mar. 14. “It will sail to Japan and then take the return route,” Bergotto was quoted as saying.

During this period that Cavour is underway in Asia, the Italian Navy will use LHD Trieste for duties in the Mediterranean.
