The Royal Thai Air Force (RTAF) has expressed its desire to upgrade the radar of its Saab 340 airborne early warning and control (AEW&C) aircraft.

Commander of the Air Force, ACM Alongkorn Wannarot, said the service is seeking $1.1 billion from next year’s budget.
Wannarot added that a replacement for its A340-500 aircraft is required as the current aircraft is facing retirement in 2026. With regards to the service’s intention to buy F-35As, Wannorot says the U.S. government will give its decision this July. The Royal Thai Air Force is seeks other options as well.
