Matthew Spinelli, commander of the 49th TES, emphasizes the need for swift and comprehensive modernization without a gradual approach. To achieve this, the integrated squadron aims to employ a full sprint strategy, integrating the sharpest tacticians from the U.S. Air Force Weapons School, who will gain invaluable insights into the new systems before they are deployed to the warfighter.
One of the pivotal events where the integrated squadron showcased its capabilities was during Northern Edge 23. The team focused on testing B-52 datalink modifications with Agile Pod and Link-16, enabling them to provide critical inputs into mission planning and tactical execution. Subsequently, the 340th WPS Instructors utilized the data to create familiarization academics for the new Link-16 hardware, which was then seamlessly integrated into the current courseware for weapons school classes.
The collaborative efforts do not merely focus on testing new hardware and software but also emphasize the development of Tactics, Techniques, and Procedures (TTPs). By laying the groundwork for TTPs during the operational testing phase, the team aims to empower future B-52 aircrews to anticipate change and adapt their training plans effectively.
