Philippines to buy 3 C-130J-30 tranports

In a significant development for the Philippine Air Force (PAF), the Department of National Defense (DND) of the Philippines has issued a Notice to Proceed for the acquisition of three Lockheed Martin C-130J-30 “Super Hercules” aircraft. These brand-new aircraft are set to bolster the PAF’s tactical and transport capabilities, marking a pivotal moment in the nation’s defense strategy.

The acquisition process for these state-of-the-art aircraft began in 2021, as part of the Second Horizon of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Modernization Program. The contract for these three advanced aircraft is estimated to be valued at $391 million, reflecting the Philippines’ commitment to strengthening its defense capabilities.

According to DND spokesperson Arsenio Andolong, the first C-130J is scheduled for delivery in July 2026, with the second to follow in October of the same year. The third and final aircraft is expected to arrive in January 2027.

One of the key advantages of the C-130J-30 is its spacious cargo hold, which, coupled with the reliability of the existing C-130 fleet, will provide the PAF with significantly improved operational flexibility. This enhancement will empower the Philippine Air Force to respond more effectively to the demands of the AFP’s tactical missions, which include disaster relief, humanitarian assistance, and military operations.

Andolong further emphasized that the PAF maintains a mixed fleet of C-130s, which play a vital role in the country’s capacity to provide support during humanitarian crises and military endeavors. The inclusion of the C-130J-30 aircraft represents a substantial stride forward in advancing the Philippines’ defense capabilities and underscores the nation’s commitment to maintaining a credible defense posture.

The acquisition of these Lockheed Martin C-130J-30 “Super Hercules” aircraft is not only a testament to the Philippines’ dedication to national security but also a substantial leap forward in bolstering its tactical and transport capabilities. The delivery of these aircraft promises to be a transformative moment for the Philippine Air Force, ensuring that the nation is well-prepared to handle both routine operations and emergency response situations effectively.
