USMC F-35Bs land at Nyutabaru Air Base, Japan for the first time

For the first time, U.S. Marine Corps F-35B stealth fighters touched down at the Japan Air Self-Defense Force’s Nyutabaru Base in Shintomi Town for the first time. This marks the first-ever landing of the F-35B at Nyutabaru Base, signifying a new chapter in joint training between Japan and the United States.

The F-35B, known for its advanced stealth capabilities and unique ability for short takeoffs and vertical landings, arrived as part of the ongoing joint training initiative between the two nations. The two aircraft from Iwakuni Air Base landed at Nyutabaru Air Base Base around 10:30 a.m., drawing the attention of spectators, including enthusiasts and local residents.

Photographers gathered at an observation deck on the east side of the base, capturing the powerful moment when the F-35Bs took off around 3:00 p.m., resonating with a thunderous sound as it departed.

Japan’s Ministry of Defense has ambitious plans for the F35B, intending to procure 42 aircraft in the future. The initial deployment involves stationing the first six aircraft at the Nyutabaru Base by the end of the next fiscal year, emphasizing the strategic significance of this location.

The joint training sessions between Japan and the United States are scheduled to continue until the 20th of this month. Taking place in the airspace off Shikoku and west of Kyushu, with Nyutabaru Air Base as the central hub, these exercises underline the commitment of both nations to strengthening their defense capabilities and fostering collaboration in the face of evolving geopolitical challenges.
