AH-64E crashes at JBLM

A U.S. Army AH-64E Apache attack helicopter assigned to 4-6 Assault Cavalry Squadron (ACS), 16th Combat Aviation Brigade, sustained a crash landing at the property of Joint Base Lewis-McChord (JBLM) in Washington State on Mar. 27. The incident occurred around 9:30 p.m. during a routine training exercise.

Thankfully, both pilots aboard the Apache were able to survive the crash and were subsequently transported to Madigan Army Medical Center for evaluation. Their condition is reported as stable.

Details regarding the cause of the mishap are scarce. A team from the Combat Readiness Center at Fort Novosel, Alabama, has been deployed to JBLM to conduct a thorough investigation.

Local residents in the vicinity of the crash site reported hearing irregular rotor sounds from the helicopter prior to the incident. The marshy and brush-covered terrain hampered initial access to the wreckage.
