The museum extends its gratitude to the US Marine Corps (USMC) and the National Naval Aviation Museum for selecting HAM as the recipient of this significant aircraft. The AV-8B Harrier, known for its unique vertical takeoff and landing (VTOL) capabilities, has been a cornerstone of North Carolina’s military aviation history for decades. This acquisition will allow HAM to showcase this iconic aircraft and educate visitors about its role in USMC operations.

Weather permitting, the AV-8B Harrier II Plus is scheduled to arrive at Hickory Regional Airport on Jul. 15th, at approximately 3:00 PM. The arrival will be marked by a special flyby alongside a two-seat Harrier, offering a photo opportunity for aviation enthusiasts.

Following the flyby, the aircraft will land and be taxied to a secure location adjacent to other museum aircraft. The public will then have a limited-time opportunity (approximately 90 minutes) to view the Harrier II Plus up close and take photos.

After the public viewing window, the USMC maintenance crew will begin the demilitarization process to ensure the aircraft is safely transitioned to a museum exhibit. The two-seat Harrier accompanying the AV-8B Harrier II Plus will depart Hickory Regional Airport at a later date to be announced.

The Hickory Aviation Museum encourages the public to attend this exciting event. For any updates regarding the arrival schedule or public viewing details, please follow the museum’s Facebook page (@HickoryAviationMuseum).
