It’s time to talk about South Korea’s latest military development: a new advanced guided missile system designed to strike North Korean long-range artillery pieces. This new missile system is an upgrade of the Korean Tactical Surface-to-Surface Missile (KTSSM), which is already being used as a “long-range artillery killer.” The KTSSM has been developed to counter the artillery power of North Korea and has been a crucial tool in the defense of South Korea against its northern neighbor.
What sets this new missile apart is its mobility. The current KTSSM is operated on a fixed platform, but the new missile is expected to be run on a mobile launcher, giving it increased maneuverability and survivability. This is a crucial step forward in the development of South Korea’s military capabilities and will give it a much-needed edge against North Korean artillery power.
The new missile will be larger and have a longer operational range of around 300 km, as compared to the current KTSSM, which has a range of 180 km with a caliber of 400 millimeters. This new system will provide South Korea with a much more formidable defense against the threat from the north.
The KTSSM is GPS-guided, allowing it to hit targets within two meters of accuracy. It also has a shaped thermal warhead that can penetrate bunkers and underground targets. Although it resembles the American MGM-140 ATACMS missile, the KTSSM is more cost-effective and more accurate, with a shorter range.
