La Tribune reported that Egypt is close to signing a deal for 20 Rafale fighters. The paper said Dassault’s CEO Éric Trappier traveled to Cairo on Jan. 15 for the negotiations.

The cabinet of Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe has approved a new defense budget that will fund 20 P-1s, 5 MV-22s, 6 F-35As and one E-2D.
The U.S. Air Force reactivated the 81st Fighter Squadron on Jan. 15. The unit will train Afghan pilots and maintainers at Moody Air Force Base.
