USN requests Sidekick internal weapons rack for F-35C to carry 6 AIM-120s

The Pentagon’s Fiscal Year 2021 Unfunded Priorities List has put in a request to equip low-rate initial production (LRIP) Lot 15 F-35C fighters with the Sidekick internal weapons rack.

Daniel “Crib” Armenteros, piloting an F-35C Lightning II assigned to Naval Air Station China Lake’s Air Test and Evaluation Squadron Nine (VX-9), conducts the first live-fire test of an AIM-120 missile released from an operational Joint Strike Fighter. GoPro cameras allowed engineers to evaluate latest software build for C/KC-130T AOU

Travels restrictions imposed by the COVID-19 pandemic forced engineers to come up with a video conference solution to allow participants at four locations to evaluate the latest build of the U.S. Navy’s C/KC-130T Avionics Obsolescence Upgrade (AOU) software configuration.
