JMSDF selects MQ-9B for MALE RPAS Project
The Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force (JMSDF) has selected the MQ-9B SeaGuardian from General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, Inc. (GA-ASI) for the former’s Medium-Altitude, Long-Endurance (MALE) RPAS Trial Operation Project. According to GA-ASI, the trials will begin in April this year.

Australia cleared to buy AARGM-ER missiles
The Biden administration has approved a possible sale of Advanced Anti-Radiation Guided Missiles-Extended Range (AARGM-ERs) to the Government of Australia. The proposed sale includes up to 63 AARGM-ERs, 20 AARGM-ER Captive Air Training Missiles, and related equipment for an estimated cost of $506 million. This sale will support the foreign policy and national security objectives of the United States, as Australia is one of the United States’ most important allies in the Western Pacific.

ASTARTE program demonstrates revolutionary automated flightpath-planning software
In late 2022, the Air Space Total Awareness for Rapid Tactical Execution (ASTARTE) program, a joint collaboration between DARPA, the Army, and the U.S. Air Force, successfully demonstrated new automated flightpath-planning software in a simulated battle in contested airspace. The software was able to deconflict friendly missiles, artillery fire, and manned and unmanned aircraft while avoiding enemy fires.
