489th Bomb Group reactivated after 70 years, first B-1B Reserve unit
The 489th Bomb Group was reactivated on Oct. 17 at Dyess Air Force Base, Texas, exactly 70 years after it was inactivated after World War II.

Four RAF Eurofighters arrived in Malta, next destination unknown
Four Royal Air Force Eurofighters, accompanied by a MRTT tanker, were in Malta overnight on Oct. 19. Malta Armed Forces declined to reveal the jets’ next destination.

SM-3 intercepts ballistic missile over North Atlantic Ocean for the first time
The first ballistic missile interception by a SM-3 interceptor in the North Atlantic Ocean took place on Oct. 20. USS Ross fired the missile which intercepted a short-range Terrier Orion ballistic missile target. The cues for the firing solution came from Dutch and Spanish warships.
