Taiwan plans to induct a new advanced jet trainer for its air force starting in 2017. Its first choice is the Alenia M346.
While European companies have no restrictions on selling training equipment to Taiwan. The M346 has built-in simulation software to mimic air and ground attacks. This classifies the jet as a military attack aircraft that requires approval from the Italian government. Taiwan is worried that it will run into problems getting the green light.
