U.S. Navy SEALs were flown into Yemen by U.S. Air Force CV-22s on Dec. 6 in a attempt to rescue American hostage Luke Somers.
Somers and South African hostage Pierre Korkie were shot by al Qaeda of the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP) fighters during the firefight. Both were evacuated to USS Makin Island on board a CV-22. Unfortunately, both of them did not survive.
