Canada’s new defense minister doesn’t rule out F-35 from fighter competition

Canada’s new defense minister Harjit Sajjan was asked twice during a conference call with reporters whether the Lockheed Martin F-35 is being excluded from the competition to replace the CF-18, and both times he sidestepped the question.

“My focus isn’t about F-35 or any other aircraft; my focus” is about replacing the CF-18s, Sajjan said on the call. “We will open it up to an open process.”

  1. Any competition that the F-35 is in won’t be a fair one. The other competitors are approved designs, not still in development, they are combat capable, which the F-35 prototypes are clearly not, plus they are reliable and most importantly they cost a heck of a lot less while meeting Canada’s needs better than even a finished F-35 would do..
