USS Nimitz avoids making three homeport changes over the next four years

The U.S. Navy has decided to keep aircraft carrier USS Nimitz in Bremerton, Washington till fiscal 2019. Previously, the carrier was scheduled to shuffle between Everett and Bremerton between 2016 to 2019.

The ship had already made three homeport changes in the past five years.

“The prospect of successive homeport changes and the inevitable impact on Sailors and their families resulted in my decision to extend the temporary stationing of USS Nimitz in Bremerton,” said Secretary of the Navy Ray Mabus.
