Norway plans to buy new maritime patrol aircraft and long-range air defense system

A whitepaper describing the Long Term Plan for the Norwegian Armed Forces for the years 2017-2020 has been published by the Norwegian government. The plan calls for the acquisition of new maritime patrol aircraft and a long-range air defense system to complement the current NASAMS 2.

The Norwegian Advanced Surface-to-Air Missile System 2 (NASAMS 2) will be boosted with longer-range missiles as well. This could be the AMRAAM-ER that Raytheon is developing.

To fund for these new purchases, the government has recommended an additional spending of $19.7 billion.
