South Korea’s Green Pine radars are not reliable

A South Korean lawmaker has disclosed that the two Green Pine radars bought from Israel have been failing repeatedly.

South Korea deployed the two radars at North Chungcheong Province and South Chungcheong Province.

Data showed that the radars had stop working for 21 times over the past three years.

An anonymous military official said the reason was because moisture entered the radars, condensing inside the antennae. A temporary work-around by the Air Force was to install air conditioners inside the units. A permanent solution is to house them inside radomes.
