Bigger range being proposed for NAS Fallon

The existing Fallon Range Training Complex in Nevada has become too small for U.S. Marine and Navy pilots to practice aerial warfare and the sailing branch has requested to expand the range by 1364 square miles.

Out of the 1364 square miles, 314 miles are covered under a “special use” permit that will expire in 2021. The Navy is seeking to renew that permit.

945 square miles come under the U.S. Bureau of Land Management and the service wants to designate them as military training area.

Finally, 102 square miles will be acquired from private owners.
