All of Florida’s Senators and congressional delegates have signed a joint letter urging the Pentagon not to forget about turning Naval Station Mayport into a second East Coast homeport for an aircraft carrier.

Although the sailing branch had wanted to bring a carrier to Mayport as early as 2019, the idea has cooled over the years and modifications necessary to support a massive ship have not been implemented.
“We implore you to no longer defer resource allocations needed for Mayport to continue its service to the carrier fleet,” the letter said.
