The U.S. Air Force has started a trial whereby students undergoing the Specialized Undergraduate Pilot Training (SUPT) can apply to fly the U-2 reconnaissance plane once they graduate.

Only two students will be selected with the first to be chosen this fall. The successful applicant will be trained to become a T-38 instructor pilot for the U-2 Companion Trainer Program. After gaining experience will the person be allowed to undergo U-2 qualification training.
