Aircrews from Australia, Micronesia and U.S. rescue stranded mariners

A three-person crew of a skiff was rescued after a coordinated search by aircrews from Australia, Micronesia and United States.

They had gone missing on Jul. 30 and were stranded on Pikelot Island, 190km west of where they had set off in Pulawat. The men made a SOS message on the beach which was spotted by a USAF KC-135 orbiting overhead searching for them.

An Australian Army ARH Tiger helicopter then landed on Pikelot Island to bring them supplies and confirm their identities.

A Micronesian patrol vessel will pick them up later.
