Minuteman III ICBM test launch from Vandenberg

An unarmed Minuteman III intercontinental ballistic missile equipped with a test re-entry vehicle was launched by Airmen from the Global Strike Command on Aug. 11.

During this launch, a Hi Fidelity Joint Test Assembly re-entry vehicle that detonated conventional explosives prior to hitting the surface of the water was used. The vehicle landed downrange near Kwajalein Atoll in the Marshall Islands.

341st Missile Wing personnel from Malmstrom AFB, 90th Missile Wing personnel from F.E. Warren AFB, and 91st Missile Wing personnel from Minot, were selected by the task force to support the test launch.
