Japan’s defense ministry is preparing the budget request for 2022 that includes funds to expedite the development of autonomous flight technology for unmanned aerial vehicles by utilizing artificial intelligence (AI).

The unmanned aerial vehicle is expected to accompany the next generation F-X fighter and the key focus of the AI research will be early detection of enemy aircraft and missiles, launching of weapons, and lastly, electronic attack.
