82-0025 flew final flight honoring fallen F-15 pilot

F-15C, #82-0025, flew its final flight on Jul. 30 and the 40th Flight Test Squadron decided to take the opportunity to honor the late Maj. James Duricy.

A USAF F-15C number 82-0025, assigned to Eglin Air Force Base, Florida, completes one of its final missions before retirement, July 26, 2021. The twin-engine, single seat jet flew as a memorial to Maj. James “Crush” Duricy, a test pilot who died the same kind of aircraft during a test flight in 2002. (U.S. Air Force photo by Master Sgt. Tristan McIntire)

Duricy was on a test flight for the AIM-9X test program when his jet 82-0022 had structural integrity failure and he did not survive the ejection.

On this final flight for 82-0025, the unit configured the jet similar to Duricy’s test flight and used the same callsign Quell 2.

Col. Sean Bradley, who was the acting flight test engineer during that test back in 2002, came out to pay his respects to Duricy and 82-0025. He had witnessed the incident from another aircraft.

  1. This aircraft should have been placed in the Udvar Hazy museum instead of the boneyard where it will be scrapped. Shores the lack of vision by USAF
