Sankei reports that the Japan Air Self-Defense Force (JASDF) is considering the setup of a rapid deployment airport group will have help prepare airports in the Ryukyu Islands for military operations.

This group will have air traffic controllers to take over the airports and personnel to arm and refuel military aircraft. They can be rapidly deployed using a cargo plane. The number is likely to be around 30 people
Also, there are plans to move F-15s from Okinawa to Shimojishima airport in Miyakojima. The airport there has a 3,000 meter-long runway that can allow all fighters of the JASDF to operate from. The flight time of a fighter from Shimojishima to Senkaku is only half that compared to Okinawa.
