Pentagon to buy $2 billion worth of GPS chips that are needed by B-2 and SDB II

The Pentagon is in a rush to buy GPS chips from GlobalFoundries as the plant that fabricates them will soon stop producing those components, Bloomberg reports.

An initial $885 million in orders would be placed by Dec. 15 and the rest by March next year.

The Fab 10 facility has been sold to a new owner who will not be making those components anymore. These chips are need by the B-2 bomber and the Small Diameter Bomb II.
