A investigation by CBS News found that some of the American soldiers who suffered injury during the ballistic missile attack on Al-Asad airbase, Iraq by Iran on Jan. 8, 2020 were denied the Purple Heart.
Of the 56 who were diagnosed to have suffered traumatic brain injuries, only 23 were recognized with the award.
Without the award, these soldiers were denied the medical benefits that come with it. These men and women still suffer from constant headaches, memory loss and vision problems.
A U.S. Army spokesperson told CBS that the award packets are now being reconsidered by the Army’s Human Resources Command.
