Japan’s Defense Minister Nobuo Kishi said the next day that Tokyo has requested that the U.S. suspends flight operations of its F-16 until the fleet clears safety inspections.

Col. Timothy Murphy, the vice commander of the 35th Fighter Wing of the Misawa Air Base, met Fukaura Mayor Mitsuru Yoshita to apologize for the incident.

#91-0382 participated in Operation Northern Watch in the late 1990s and was seen with six HARM missile markings and one SA-3 kill.
