An Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer assigned to the U.S. 7th Fleet is now equipped with an Aerosonde unmanned aerial system.
This unnamed destroyer is a Flight I/II ship that has no helicopter assigned on board due to the lack of a hangar. The Aerosonde will give the warship an organic airborne surveillance capability.
Wayne Prender, Textron Systems’ vice president for Air Systems, told Seapower magazine that a second destroyer will be equipped with the Aerosonde by end of this year.
