U.S. will no longer conduct destructive direct-ascent ASAT missile testing

The Biden administration has declared that the United States will no longer conduct destructive, direct-ascent anti-satellite (ASAT) missile testing.

The commitment was announced by Vice President Kamala Harris at Vandenberg Space Force Base on Apr. 18.

The administration says reducing ASAT testing and debris generation caused by those testing advances U.S. national security interests and protects long-term U.S. interests in space exploration, space science, and space-enabled economic development.
