The deployment will take place between February and March. Four of the aircraft will be used for air patrol, while the other four will conduct training exercises with other NATO allies, ready to augment the defensive mission if needed.

The Netherlands has previously deployed its F-16s to Siauliai in support of Baltic Air Policing in 2005 and 2017, and to Malbork in 2014. The deployment to Marlbork will also include fighters from Poland, France, and Germany as part of a rotation of NATO allies operating in the Baltic region.
