VPAF Su-22 crashes, pilot killed

A Vietnam People’s Air Force (VPAF) Su-22 fighter has crashed while landing at Yen Bai airport in northern Vietnam on Jan. 31.


The pilot, identified as Tran Ngoc Duy, was killed in the accident. He was the Deputy Chief of Squadron 1, 921st Fighter-Bomber Regiment.

According to the news report, the jet had a mechanical issue while landing and Tran was ordered to eject. Instead, he tried to fix the fault but the aircraft eventually crashed around 12:27 p.m. local time.
