Chinese navy to train first female carrier-based aircraft pilots

China’s People’s Liberation Army (PLA) Navy has recently launched its 2023 recruiting program, which includes a significant development that marks a milestone in the country’s military history. For the first time, female cadet pilots will be recruited to fly carrier-based aircraft. The program is open to eligible candidates who pass the selection procedures that test their physical and psychological qualities and flying talent. Successful candidates will have the opportunity to become China’s first female carrier-based aircraft pilots.

The PLA Navy has expanded the eligibility criteria for the recruitment program to include new graduates of science and engineering majors at ordinary universities, college students performing military services in the Chinese navy, and university graduates who have joined the navy.

Carrier-based aircraft pilots are the core element of the combat capabilities of aircraft carriers, and the accelerated transformation of the PLA Navy makes the demand for carrier-based carrier pilots increasingly urgent, a naval officer was quoted.
